On June 2, the HSE International Laboratory for Social Interaction Research and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art successfully completed their joint Diversity Research Lab. The laboratory covered a number of topics related to social diversity, including interculturalism, life in a multinational country, ageism, poverty, and ableism. During the final online meeting of the project, the participants discussed universal design—a design which would allow for the creation of environments accessible to people regardless of their disability, age, or any other factors.

In May 2021, 25 digital teaching consultants began work at all campuses of HSE University. Their task is to help colleagues teach effectively online and make use of digital technology in their teaching. All consultants passed a selection by the Expert Committee. HSE University will enhance its programmes in Software Engineering implemented by the Faculty of Computer Science together with the RAS Institute for System Programming (ISP RAS) and the company, 1C. The focus will be on the study of cutting-edge technology of software development as well as on expanding the number of various specializations.

This year, the minor with the highest student enrollment at HSE University is the ‘Startup from Scratch: Creating Your own Business’, offered by the Department of Innovation Management. In September, 500 students from all four HSE’s campuses will begin studying the art of entrepreneurship. This number is less than half of the students who applied: in total, the minor course received more than 1,700 applications. Associate Professor Margarita Zobnina, who supervises the minor, spoke with the news service about why students from different faculties want to learn the secrets of a successful business, what skills they gain in the minor, and how they expand their professional networks.

From April 21 to 23, 2021, a major online conference of the HSE Art and Design School and the Doctoral School of Art and Design was held on ‘Theories and Practices of Art and Design: Sociocultural, Economic and Political Contexts.’ Experts discussed educational practices in art, its contemporary state, the impact of technology, and prospects for the art industry’s future development.

IT giants and investment funds, banks and international corporations — more than three dozen employers took part in the HSE Career Marathon. Company recruiters told students what vacancies for young professionals were open in various departments, what they look for when selecting employees and what skills they particularly value.
