Education news at HSE University

How does digital technology affect the behavior and health of schoolchildren? What opportunities does it proved teachers and school administrators? These and other issues were discussed by participants in the plenary session ‘Children’s Wellbeing in the Digital Age’ at the XX April International Scientific Conference of HSE.

The role of regional and industrial institutions of higher education in achieving national development goals must increase, and leading universities will help them. This was the conclusion reached by participants of the plenary session on Russian higher education that took place as part of the XX April International Academic Conference.

As part of the Moscow International Education Fair, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met with students who won medals at the biggest programming competition in the world. This global contest recently reached its conclusion in Portugal, and the prize winners include HSE’s Faculty of Computer Science team.

The agreement establishes a student- and academic-exchange programme and the opportunity for joint educational and research project development. The agreement was signed on April 8 with the participation of representatives of the government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

On April 4, 2019, the world finals of ICPC, an annual student team competition and the main event in competitive programming, took place.

HSE’s Preparatory Year Programme for international students includes not only intensive Russian language training but also subject specific courses. One such course is ‘Russian Literature’, which introduces international students to classic works by Russian writers such as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov. In the course, students read and discuss select texts in the original Russian, which helps them gain a better understanding of the Russian culture and history.

HSE's English-taught online specialization, ‘Advanced Machine Learning’, which was created in partnership with Yandex, became the first course in Russia to receive the Outstanding Educator Award in the category of ‘Innovation’ from the global online platform Coursera.

Students of the HSE Faculty of Law won the regional round of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition, which is organized by the European Law Students Association with the support of the World Trade Organization. The final round will be held in Geneva in June.
